What Is James Hardie Siding Made Of?

When siding gets old and worn out, smart homeowners take inventory of siding material options to discover the best solution for their home. Vinyl, wood, and fiber cement are often the main contenders.

While vinyl is known for its affordability, and wood for its insulation ability, fiber cement is a top choice for its variety of benefits. Long-lasting fiber cement has a track record of reliable durability, weather resistance, fire resistance, pest resistance, moisture resistance, and more. Where do these outstanding features begin? In the very makeup of fiber cement.

Let’s take a look at the robust nature of the top fiber cement product in the industry: James Hardie.

Durable James Hardie Siding for Your Indianapolis Home

James Hardie, the industry champion for siding solutions, maintains its excellence by investing millions of dollars each year in research and development. Consequently, they have launched seven different generations of fiber cement siding throughout their history, improving their product makeup each time, and giving homeowners and business owners even more reasons to choose Hardie siding.

Not only were they the first to invent fiber cement, but they are also the prevailing leader of this trusted siding product. Covering over 8,000,000 homes across America, you can’t go wrong when choosing Hardie. Here’s why:

What is Hardie Siding made of?

While wood siding is made from wood fibers, and vinyl is made of plastic, James Hardie siding is made of a proprietary blend of Portland cement, sand, cellulose fibers, water, and proprietary additives.

While the cement gives Hardie siding its overall robust strength, the cellulose fibers give it a bending strength that keeps it from getting brittle and cracking. The proprietary additives enhance the performance of the siding.

Fused into thick, heavy boards, these durable ingredients are mixed in a factory setting, creating a sludge-type material that can be formed into different siding and trim styles. When the mixture is made, it’s poured out and pressed together, forming it into sheets. Next, it’s pressed even more to make sure all the excess water is pushed out of the siding mixture. It’s then made into sheets and cut into siding panels. Next, it is baked under high pressure and tested to verify its strength. And finally, the uniform finish is applied. Hardie siding can mimic wood once it is made, but it’s much more durable than wood (and lower maintenance too).

Why does Hardie siding last so long?

Siding has a tough job being exposed to weather elements 24/7. The Hardie company developed its siding to safeguard homes from the worst possible weather: snowstorms, harsh UV rays, hurricanes, and more. They also made sure their product will protect your home from abrupt temperature changes (particularly at the change of seasons).

Hardie siding is engineered to stand up to the demands of your specific climate. After studying the long-term results that different climates have on siding, the Hardie company developed the Hardie Zone System. It ensures you get the right siding for your area of the country’s weather.

Hardie siding comes in two options: HZ5 and HZ10. HZ5 siding resists wet, freezing conditions. HZ10 products protect homes from heat, humidity, and harsh sun. The perfect product for your Indianapolis home is Hardie’s HZ5 siding.

Beautiful Siding that Lasts!

Don’t settle for just any siding material. The stunning appearance of Hardie siding combined with its trusted durability makes it a winning siding material choice. Hardie continually raises the bar for the industry, ensuring you get the most stunning, durable siding and trim materials on the market.
