9 Ways to Get Ready for Your Siding Installation

It’s a big step to vet and hire the best contractor for your siding installation, and once you do, you’re well on your way to getting top-notch results. But your job doesn’t end there. Siding installation requires ample preparation on your part. You’ll need to get your home ready for its upgrade to help the installation go smoothly and prevent damage to your property.

There are steps to take both inside and outside your home. Here’s where to begin:

Siding Installation Preparation

Here’s how to get ready for your new siding to be installed:

1. Prepare your yard for the siding installation crew.

  • Cut your grass short, so they can find any stray nails or debris easily after each day of the installation.
  • Trim your trees and shrubs that bump up against your siding. This will give the craftsmen room to remove your old siding and install the new.
  • Cover your garden with a tarp. Tearing off old siding can put a lot of debris on the loose. Keep unwanted debris out of your prized garden by covering it during the installation.

2. Declutter your outdoor space.

  • Put all toys and bikes inside your garage. Prevent accidents by removing anything that doesn’t need to be in your yard so the installers can do their job fluidly.
  • Remove lawn furniture that is near your home. Expedite the installation process by getting lawn furniture out of the way.
  • Move planters and seasonal décor into your home to declutter your property.

3. Make arrangements for your pets.

  • Pets don’t care for the noise that comes on installation day.
  • If you feel noise may be a strong issue for your pet, you may want to seek out a family member, or friend to assist in housing pets during your siding installation.

4. Ensure the safety of your small children.

  • If you have small children, consider making arrangements for them to be cared for away from home during your siding upgrade.
  • Perhaps take your children out for a special play day in your community, or visit friends or family as you get new siding.

5. Prepare your home’s interior for your exterior upgrade.

  • Remove pictures from your walls, realizing your home’s walls may vibrate during siding installation.
  • Store fragile items that could fall off any shelves due to shaking.
  • Remove lamps, hanging plants, and breakable décor from surfaces inside your home to prevent damage.

6. Protect your vehicle by removing it from the premises.

  • Your new siding will be delivered before installation day, so make room for it by clearing your driveway.
  • A dumpster will be delivered to your home, and your old siding will be placed in it. Make arrangements to keep your car off your property during your siding upgrade to prevent damage and give workers the area they need to deliver the dumpster and siding to your home.

7. If you work remotely, prepare for noise intrusion.

  • Removing the old siding and nailing the new creates noise on installation days.
  • If you work remotely, plan on a different location during siding installation. If you don’t have an office in the area, consider a coffee shop or the library to use as your temporary workplace.

8. Eliminate outdoor components.

  • Remove your shutters to make way for your new siding if it’s feasible.
  • Check with your contractor to see if you should take your gutter downspout down; if so, ask for tips on how to do it safely.

9. Plan ahead.

  • Talk with your contractor about when to expect the installation team to arrive and complete their work daily during the installation process.
  • Ensure a positive experience by talking through the details with your contractor before installation day arrives.
  • Reach out to your neighbors and let them know the dates you plan to have your siding installed so they can plan ahead.
